The Death of Guillaume Depardieu

Actor Guillaume Depardieu, son of French film star Gerard Depardieu, has died at the age of 37. According to the latest reports he died from pneumonia. He was admitted to the Raymond-Poincare de Garches hospital in Paris on Sunday. It is believed he caught pneumonia whilst filming L’Enfance d’Icare in Romania, where he had been working on a new movie .Never far from headlines Guillaume had a difficult youth, marked by drug addiction, male prostitution and high-speed road accidents.In 1995 Guillaume had a motorcycle accident after a suitcase fell from a vehicle in front of him. Depardieu had surgery on his knee but caught a Staphylococcus aureus infection during his stay at hospital, that resulted in amputation in 2003.He also spent a few spells in jail, once for theft the other for dealing heroin. He and his father, Gerard ,had a tumbulant relationship culminating in a book, written by Guillaume, claiming his father neglected him in his pursuit of money and fame. Ironically, he followed in his father’s footsteps taking up acting in 1995. That year he won the Cesar award for most promising newcomer in the movie Les Apprentis. Guillaume leaves behind a great film legacy, despite those life’s little ups and downs. RIP.
UPDATE : Latest reports coming from Romanian newspapers are claiming Guillaume died from being misdiagnosed in Romania. It has been widely reported that he was transported from one medical unit to another with doctors unable to diagnose a simple case of pneumonia. Guillaume is believed to have gone into septic shock by the time he was flown to France.
FUNERAL : Guillaume was laid to rest today after an hour long memorial service at the Bougival church, in Paris. The guest list that included France’s first lady Carla Bruni, film director Luc Besson ,Nathalie Baye, Monica Bellucci,Vincent Cassel and his family (parents Gerard, Elisabeth and sister Julie and daughter Louise).The hour long ceremony featured a reading by Gerard from the children’s classic The Little Prince and a heart-wrenching speech by his mother.
